Circle Time:
This is one of our most important activities which starts our day. Circle time is a group activity which allows the teacher to lead the children through their morning routine. It involves welcoming the students and allowing them to feel settled and comfortable after drop-off. It allows for opportunities to boost social skills, communication and language, manage feelings and behaviour and promotes an understanding of the world. Children have the opportunity to ask and answer questions, join in with songs and rhymes, take turns and share their ideas and news.
Languages:
Learning a new language during the formative years has innumerable benefits. It helps children develop knowledge of other cultures, broadens their horizons and offers opportunities for the future. It stimulates cognitive development and improves memory and concentration. We offer an English curriculum which also integrates weekly lessons in French and Arabic. We also offer a French curriculum which includes weekly Arabic and English lessons.
Puppet Play:
Creative activities such as playing with puppets accentuates many skills and abilities such as make-believe, storytelling, sharing, and socialising. This activity also nurtures children’s inherent ability to invent stories, visualise settings and develop interesting characters. Our teachers incorporate puppet and props in their story telling and during singing and rhymes to support the development of communication and language by engaging the children and stimulating their interest.
Science:
Science is fascinating for children and promotes an understanding of the world. It boosts curiosity as to how and why things happen. Each week, the children will enjoy different experiments linked to various themes, helping them to gain an understanding of different concepts.
Tennis and Ball Skills
During the weekly sports class, Children learn about winning and losing, team-work and taking turns. They improve their hand – eye coordination, their physical strength, confidence and most importantly they will develop a sense of camaraderie. It stimulates gross-motor development as children run, jump, kick, throw, catch, squat, roll etc.
Dance Class
Dance is a universal language. It improves body balance and helps develop children’s skill, poise, self-discipline and self-confidence. Our children enjoy weekly dance classes with a specialist teacher as well as music and movement in many of their daily activities. It benefits their creative, physical and social development. Children are unique and will express themselves in different ways so opening up opportunities through the arts will give children an early appreciation of rhythm, music, dance and movement.
Drumming Lesson:
The children enjoy a weekly drumming lesson which promotes listening skills, coordination, gross motor skills and a sense of rhythm. The children learn to express themselves through music by banging, tapping, dancing and drumming. They learn to focus using their eyes and ears and practice repeating different rhythms and beats.
Cooking:
Children enjoy a weekly cooking class. They love to learn when it involves hands-on activities and cooking is an interesting way to engage them in learning basic skills such as shapes, colours, letters, numbers, spelling, reading, measuring, sorting, adding and subtracting. They will also gain an understanding at how materials can combine to give an end result which is taken home with pride.
Art and Craft:
Art is a great activity to allow free play! The children have freedom to manipulate materials in creative ways and it also allows for exploration and experimentation. These self-directed activities are not only fun, but educational and allow for cognitive development, language development and fine motor skill development. Children’s imagination and self-expression can be exposed as they mark-make in their own unique way whether it’s painting, drawing, colouring, sticking, creating or sculpting.
STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics):
STEM activities in the early years are hands on, practical and engaging. It promotes critical thinking, problem solving as well as an understanding of design and construction. STEM activities also stimulate children by posing them with ‘real-life’ problems and challenges.
Music Class:
Music is one of the most essential elements in a child’s learning and development. The children enjoy music daily in and out of their class and once a week, with a professional music teacher. This improves listening skills, communication and language, physical development and coordination while allowing for self-expression through singing and movement.
Class Activities:
Our various class activities are planned based on the interests and stage of development of the children in each class. They can involve construction activities, puzzles, sensory play, painting, literacy activities, math activities and more. The teachers will plan an array of options so that children can have a sense of choice and gravitate towards that which interests and stimulates them most.
Yoga:
Yoga is practiced weekly with our children of 2 years plus. It is a wonderful activity where children can gain a sense of calm, a sense of self, improve concentration and focus, as well as the numerous physical benefits such as improving balance and gross motor skills. Promoting a healthy lifestyle and healthy habits is an important part of our curriculum so a strong focus on physical activities is essential.
Water-Play:
This is a definite favourite amongst children in their early years. Water-play incorporates learning in all areas of development, from communication and language to mathematical concepts. Sinking, floating, pouring, measuring, splashing are all ways in which children are learning while having fun. Water-play takes place in shaded outdoor areas and is enjoyed regularly throughout each week.
Sensory play:
Sensory play can include activities with malleable materials as well as textiles. It can include experimenting with slime, foam, mousse, zips, glitter, water, sand, rice to name a few. Sensory play offers endless opportunities for fun and learning. It is important for children’s fine motor skill development, creative thinking, scientific thinking as well as stimulating the senses.
Role-Play:
Role-play is a vital element of the day in early years education. Whether it is planned or child-led, it offers numerous benefits such as stimulating communication and language, promoting collaboration with others, boosting an understanding of real-life situations and allows for the expression of ideas, thoughts and feelings. Educators can offer ideas and guide role-play but often children will engage in role-play during free play time.
Gardening:
Our flower beds and vegetable patches allow for hours of fun and learning each week. Gardening is multi-sensory allowing children to observe and learn about both nature and science. It is a nice way to insight an appreciation for all living things and to promote a sense of respect for living things as well as an understanding of how things grow. The children take great pride in their patches and can enjoy using their vegetables in cooking class or sensory play.
